Let’s Talk Green Carts:
New Regional Campaign Launches to Support Better Sorting
Starting today, Roseridge Waste Management Commission is launching a multi-week education campaign to help residents sort their green carts with confidence — to keep contamination out of the compost stream.
This campaign, built in collaboration with several of our member municipalities, focuses on one simple idea: when we sort it right, we all benefit.
Why It Matters
A recent audit of green cart loads revealed that more than 60% of the material was contaminated — things like plastic bags, diapers, metal trays, and even tire rims. These items don’t just belong somewhere else — they threaten the quality of the Category A compost produced at Roseridge and increase processing costs for everyone.
To address this, we’ve created a set of tools to support residents and communities in making better sorting decisions.
What You’ll See
Over the next eight weeks, Roseridge and our participating municipalities will be sharing:
✅ Weekly social media posts
✅ A 30-second campaign video
✅ Printable one-page and two-page sorting guides
✅ A clear message: Only food scraps, food-soiled paper, and yard waste go in.
Each post follows our “Happy Cart / Sad Cart” campaign — a visual and memorable way to reinforce what goes in the green cart, and what doesn’t.
